Weird wood.  I love this stuff, this is down in the bottom of our property.  Clayton and I went down in and were looking for the place to put his pop-up blind for hunting, we were distracted by the scene.

Snow and the murder of helpless chickens

T
he first snow of the season and our first snow ever in West Virginia.
It didn't last long and the afternoon warmed up and it was a lovely fall day. I am sad that my chickens were killed by an animal and we now have them secure but the loss is great and they will be missed.

Clayton built us a garbage bin to keep the critters out of the trash.. They were scattering the trash every night..

Shooting some guns after the hogs are in the cooler. Nacoma holding his ears because the gun fire is noisy but he's running around like crazy. Nacoma is Ray and Missy's son, we butchered the hogs at their house. Travis is shooting guns and we can't get him to go home...

Hogs to butcher

Well the pigs are butchered and I have lots of chops and sausage. We will be making brats today and this weekend start processing the bacon and hams.. Gota love that smoked ham and bacon.

The bread is done and delicious.
Whole wheat, wheat germ, rolled and steel cut oats, flax seed, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and dried cranberries.... YUMMMM

The sun rise here is just fab!!! Today we will be going to buy two pigs for us to grain out and butcher. We didn't have time this year to raise them ourselves so we are buying them from a source that is clean and reputed to not use chemicals or hormones. As a precaution we grain them for several weeks to clean their system of any impurities and to sweeten the meat. I am baking bread and have developed a new recipe, hope it turns our well....
